"Zły" by Leopold Tyrmand is one of those books that everyone knows, if not from the content, then from the cover, and if not from the cover, then from the film adaptation. And if it's none of these things, sometimes it's enough to look out the window and we have Zły in real life. The book is essentially a superhero - we have plot twists, a fight between good and evil, romance and the only just one with a characteristic glowing, white gaze. We even have a base, a zero point to which we keep returning - we have the "Słodycz" bar in a tenement house at the corner of Żelazna and Krochmalna, which on the cover is the center of our "Zły". And if someone lacks romance or western atmosphere, here you go, you will find everything here, because our title character is the personification of the city that he had to face. And I don't want to go too far with this analogy, but I find here some similarities to our struggles with this city. It's not an equal fight, but what can you do, you have to act and sometimes visit Słodycza.
